The Department of State Hospitals-Atascadero is a secure public sector hospital providing inpatient forensic services for mentally ill adult males who are court committed throughout the State of California.
Responsible for assisting Registered Dietitians in the development and implementation of nutritional care plans for the patient population; monitoring patient tolerance and acceptance of the diet; developing and presenting training programs. Knowledge of principles, practices, and theories of nutrition and dietetics; methods of planning, preparing and serving food to a large number of people; special dietary requirements of mentally or developmentally disabled persons; and other client groups. Communicate nutritional data to the health care team and food service employees; keep records and prepare reports; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Minimum Qualifications:
Either I Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Technician Registration of the American Dietetic Association Or II Education: Completion of an American Dietetic Association-approved two-year Dietetic Technician Program, with emphasis in nutritional care or food service management. AND Experience: Six months of continuous experience in the practice of dietetics in a health care setting. (Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent degree approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Vocational Education under the provisions of the California Education Code Division 10, Part 59, Chapter 3, which meets the academic requirements as approved by the American Dietetic Association may be substituted for the required experience.) (Applicants who have completed one year of the required education will be admitted to the examination but must complete the education and experience requirements in full before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
Potential housing for Permanent/Full-Time Staff: This if offered to employees who will be starting a permanent, full-time position with us and relocating. These are studio and dormitory style housing and based on availability. This allows staff to find something more permanent locally. Housing is on a 5-month temporary lease at a reduced rate (estimated $500/monthly), for confirmed pricing contact the housing coordinator listed on the brochure. Housing is only for employees; no other persons or pets are allowed. Located onsite of hospital grounds and withing 5-10 minutes walking distance to front of hospital lobby.
